Michael Lau's Memories
Last Saturday we had a massive celebration. We had our 125th Jubilee.
Although the Pōwhiri was great, the weather was not very pleasant . It rained from 9am, which was during the Pōwhiri. It came down very heavily! Even though it rained, we still had a really great time there and it was an awesome event!
We went there at 8.45am It was pouring down with rain that was as cold and wet as ice. Outside on the court, we had a large marquee where we stood underneath to perform. We sung Toia Mai - haka, and the hakas Ūtaina and Ka Mate. After that, we went inside and sang some more songs. In my opinion, I think that the best part was the cake - cutting. The beautiful blue and white cake was delicious. We had a great experience.
Next to the hall, a barbecue sold fried food and cold drinks. There also was a tour that went around the school, displaying each class's work as they went. After that, the hideous rain cleared up.
Overall , the Pōwhiri was great! It was a special celebration to commemorate our 125th Jubilee. This experience was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Jubilee Writing By Ella Wipatene
The raindrops fell on my skin as the calling started. I shivered, I would probably be warmer in my togs than in this powhiri dress!
The dress sticks to my skin, making it itch like I have fleas. But I have to though it, put my poker face on and sing and perform to the best of my ability.
Josh and Benson are shouting the haka as loud as their lungs allow them to and the rest of the school are responding as loud as we can.
I feel sorry for all the guests, the seem to have a look of disgust on their face as the shelter from the rain under the trees.
I almost fell even more sorry for the board and Whaea Liz, also the lady sitting in front of Whaea in the silk dress, it must be ruined!
For they are getting submerged in rain.
We haven't been sitting, I assume it's because the ground is soaked.
But its hard to think, for we are singing as loud as we can.
Marie's ear's are probably burring from our volume. Then I hear Whaea talking to Mel about us, they sound impressed.
We were later moved to the hall for weather conditions purpose. As I stepped into the hall, a warm blast of air hit my face.
It was such a relief to be inside,( it also made us sound louder).
And we sang and sang away, everyone in the building looked amazed and were clapping loudly every time we finished a song.
When the singing was done, all of the front row raced up to the meeting room, to change into our CQS tops.
And as soon as we had changed we raced back down for cake, hosting and lots of fun!
JUBILEE RECOUNT>By Luke Grover
Over last weekend (8-9 march 2015) Clyde quay school had it's 125 year birthday celebration jubilee.
It started off with a powhiri including all the CQS students that were present, al through the powhiri it was raining and we were transferred from the rain to the marquee then to the hall. Although it was raining it was still a fun and exciting experience.
Then came the most important part of it all, the youngest member of our school and the oldest person that was there that used to go to our school teamed up and cut a massive cake for the schools birthday then the hosts gave out the pieces of cake.
From then on I am not certain what happened although I know the adults checked out our work seeing as I left at that point but all I know is the people there had really enjoyed it.
Overall the jubilee was a great and exciting exciting event. And the sun started to shine after a while but as I left I thought. Wow that fun and exciting and I will always remember this experience.
