Year 7-8 Netball and Futsall Tournaments - A great way to start Term 3!

Netball and Futsal Write-ups

On Thursday the 29th year 7 and 8 netballers played at the ASB arena.  We all played seven games altogether.

The year 8’s won two lost one and tied one game.  The year 8’s had lost one player so they borrowed Stella B from the year 7 team.  The came 3rd in the whole of the year 8 tournament.  Saint Bridget's school bet the year 8s and therefore came first over-all.  Whenever they weren't playing they would go and see if the year 7’s were playing so they can cheer them on.

The year 7s won four and lost three. Over-all the year 7’s came second with Holy Cross in first.  The year 7’s were down two players so they had to get some players from the year 6 team to play.  Thanks to Isla and Eve year 7 Strikers were still in the tournament.  Eve and Isla also told us a good team chant that went
“CQS is the best, we can help to beat the rest”

We had so much fun.  Thanks to all the parent helpers who helped with transport and reffing.  We couldn't have done it without you.

Futsal Tournament Reflection.

The futsal tournament hosted on the twenty ninth of july was a tournament in which the Year 7-8s played futsal, a game like football except it is indoors, uses a heavier playing ball and is five a side.  It was hosted at the ASB centre, Kilbirnie. It included a slew of schools such as Clyde Quay, Brooklyn, Karori Normal, Wadestown, Hataitai and Samuel Marsden.  We started off in drafts then replacement drafts and culminating finals the Year 7-8’s from Clyde Quay placed third in non-competitive, behind Wadestown(second) and Karori Normal(first).

As a result of the team (facetiously named the Clyde Quay Water Rats) having 14 players, we split into three groups, two teams of five and one team of four.  The teams rotated through halves of games, with the third team getting an extra player to equal the required five.  These players were Saskia, Meggy, Seraphine and Sophie who each filled in at some point.  There was a large array of talent displayed with people performing skills, making amazing long shots and executing super saves.

There were a few injuries but they weren’t major, it was a boisterous time, very "teamly".  All the players as substitutes acted as cheerleaders and converted into very focused futsal players when they were subbed on and were all very good sports men.

Futsal day gone wrong.

On Wednesday 29 of July we went to the futsal tournament at the ASB centre.  The tournament was started of as a invigorating draw in the first half, but then turned into a close match finally our superior skills were too crazy awesome for them to handle.  As the day progressed we played opponents that were more skilled than us and had a much better idea of what they were doing. We ended up losing the second match due to some amateur goalkeeping.  The next game wasn’t any better so that was how it kept going until the last game first half team kept the score 1-1 but at the second half the team did really well until the amateur goalie struck again! So we lost that  game too.

Netball Tournament

On Wednesday the 29 of July the year 7 and 8s went to a netball tournament at ASB sports center.
Clyde Quay entered two teams, a year seven and and year eight team.
The year seven team won three games and lost one in the first round then in the second round lost two and won one.
The year eights won one, lost one and tied one in the first round then lost two and won one in the second round.

Standing there with the ball, hearing loud cheers coming from the sideline, The pressures all on me, A hands right up in my face making me angry :( , I have to get this goal I say to myself.
The ball goes up… IT GOES IN!!!
The whistle blows, kids running at me calling my name “ Mani pass to me!”
“I’m free!” The pressure kicks in “time to pass” I think to myself.
The pass goes to the WA who passes to GA then shoots!
Overall Clyde Quay did really well and it was really tough competition.
The whole day wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the parents who helped by driving us there and back as well as supporting us on the side line.
We had such a great time and can’t wait till next year.  :) :) :)

Netball game at ASB Arena

The year 7 and 8 netball teams went to the ASB Arena to play against other netball teams.  Our team, CQS Strikers won second place but lost to Holy Cross, who came first.  We usually play against one netball team but we played against Holy Cross twice!.

We had two injured players ( Renee and Kelly ) when had the second game of netball with Holy Cross so Kelly said she wanted to be goalkeeper again, we lost again but it was really fun.

The year 8 team took Shan Shan ( year 7 ) and Stella.B   ( year 7 ) to play for there team so we took Eve (year 6 ) and Isla ( year 6 ) to play for year 7 team.

CQS Strikers won 4 games and lost 3, but we were only playing for fun.

I would like to thank the parents who used their time to drive us to ASB arena and support us instead of using their free time to go for a coffee.  So both of the CQS netball teams and enthusiastic students that signed up for futsal  want to thank you guys for helping us with everything.

Futsal Tournament.

The  buzzer screeched to life as I got ready to play.  Breaking into a sprint onto the court we readied in positions.  The whistle blew then the game begun, transforming, everyone started moving, the ball fell to my feet.  Cushioning the ball I moved it on then ran  to the sideline waiting for the ball I rushed up the line.

Shot after shot dissolved into nothing as the ball tumbled in the air running wide of the post.  There was a break 3 on 1 started as they shot luke lunged for the ball while it bounced towards the post striking it flimsy keeping a clean sheet.  An adrenaline rushed through me, no defenders, just me, the keeper bond to be a goal i shot right he dived left as the ball  disturbed the net violently and the point was given.

The three minute change was made, Marek stumbled back into the goal as Luke jogged to the centre of the court.  We conceded two goals as marek fell to the ground lifelessly clenching his thigh like hed been shot by a gun.  Before we saw it coming Sophie struck the ball looking like it was going to fly wide but then someone deflected it sending the ball flying with force towards the net scoring the equalizer.

Dread appears on Marek’s face as another strike hurdles past him missing the post by inches.  I trotted back as Marek sprung to life running to the center circle.  Attack after attack broke down as it rolled over the glossy painted blue line.  Flying out my grip the ball flung lobbing over the midfielders into the path of Max striking the ball firmly, travelling fast the familiar sound of the ball rattling the post echoed around the stadium soon hiding beneath the various yells.

Finally the last play came as the buzzer rang in our ears we knew from then on we had accomplished our last game
