The Year 7 and 8 seniors of Clyde Quay School belong to Rimu whanau. We are one whanau, two teachers, and two learning spaces. Rata and Kahikatea classrooms are now known as one class, Rimu, with a driveway in the middle!
Each student has been assigned to either Tandi or Sandy, and these home teachers will be the first port of call for administrative tasks, such as attendance and evacuation procedures. Please contact your child’s whanau teacher in the first instance.
Our learning in Rimu will be highly student directed, with learners identifying their learning goals, next steps and how to plan their week to meet these goals. Workshops will be offered based on learning needs, allowing students to access the teacher input they need. This will be balanced with independent consolidation tasks, group activities and follow up tasks that will be both digital and hard copy. There are high accountability checks factored into this modern way of learning, and students are regularly monitored, with reflection time being a part of each learner's day. This allows for teacher checks and learning conversations with each individual, whether that be every ten minutes or every time a learner needs a teacher.
Both Tandi and Sandy will be planning and teaching collaboratively, building the learning power of individuals, alongside our unique culture as the leaders of our school. Seniors are strongly encouraged to give back to our school community and plenty of opportunities are provided to this end.
We look forward to sharing our successes with you all, be sure to check out our posts and stay in touch.
Nga mihi,
Sandy and Tandi
